What In The World Is A Cat 6 Non Booted Patch Cable?

Isn't technology a wonderful thing? I mean, how great is it to be able to access the Internet right from your home, and do all sorts of cool things, like having movies streamed directly through your Internet connection and onto your TV? Of course, all that technology means that you have to have a fairly decent working knowledge of all the bells and whistles that make it all work, which can be daunting, especially to those of us who are technology illiterate! But at least you can use the Internet to help you find articles like this one, which will teach you about cat 6 non booted patch cables!

Basically, cat 6 non booted patch cable is the technical term for "that cable that connects the computer to the TV for online movies and game streaming". There are other uses for this specific type of cable as well, such as connecting NAS devices to a router. On one end, you have your ethernet connection, which provides up to 250 MHz performance (or more depending on the cable) and is designed for 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T/1000BASE-TX and 10GBASE-T speeds - or in other words, is designed for super-fast ethernet connections.

The "non booted" part means that the cable doesn't have that additional little shield over the clear part that attached to the ethernet port - that shield is called a boot, and is used to give the assembly additional strain relief. Cat 6 Non booted patch cables are going to be best if they aren't going to be moved around or disturbed too much. Cables can be purchased from any place that sells computer cords, including Wal-Mart, Radio Shack, etc. They can also be purchased online. Average cost is around $5.00, depending on length.

You'll probably know if you need a cat 6 non booted patch cable, as their use is pretty specific. But if you are doing some "DIY" gaming system setups, and run across this term in the instructions, now you know what it is, what is means, and even where to get it. And guess what? They even come in a whole variety of cool colors, just in case you want to color coordinate things in your work and/or play area!
